As we welcomed the arrival of fall, the children were invited to explore and share their ideas about the season and different things associated with fall. We began by talking about things we notice during fall. The children shared their experiences about cooler temperatures, colourful leaves, pumpkins, squirrels etc. We discussed how leaves of trees change from green to beautiful shades of yellow, orange, red and brown. Following the discussion, the children were invited to choose from a variety of things representing fall like leaves, squirrels, pumpkins. They selected the objects and decided how they wanted to decorate their art. Some children added details while some experimented with lines and patterns. Throughout, the children demonstrated their ability to make independent choices. Children also observed each other's creation and exchanged ideas. The children also explored concepts of colours, shapes, and patterns as they compared different shades and shapes of leaves. This also supported their fine motor development as they handled and placed materials to create their art. Through this they explored creativity, self expression, language and seasonal changes while making meaningful connections to their experiences with fall.
