As the children returned to the after-school program, they began settling back into familiar routines and reconnecting with their friends. During this transition, the children were excited to spend time exploring the materials in the classroom and engaging in meaningful, child-led play.
This week, the children enjoyed exploring the outdoors with curiosity and excitement. As they wandered through the grass, they noticed grasshoppers jumping nearby. This quickly became an exciting adventure as the children carefully tried to catch them.
The children watched closely, noticing how the grasshoppers moved and jumped. They took turns trying to gently catch them, sharing their discoveries with one another. There was lots of laughter and excitement as the grasshoppers jumped away!
As the children continued exploring, they began searching through the grass for four-leaf clovers. They carefully looked among the leaves, using their eyes to compare and count the different shapes. When a four-leaf clover was discovered, the children were thrilled to share their special find with their friends and educators.
This experience encouraged the children to slow down, observe their surroundings, and investigate the natural world. They demonstrated curiosity, patience, perseverance, and a growing understanding of living things and nature. Most importantly, the children showed us how much learning and joy can happen when we give them the time and space to explore outdoors.
